Little Grand Canyon, GA

Hiking has become one of my most favorite things to do. Its a great way to incorporate movement into your healthy and active lifestyle and it allows you to enjoy the outdoors in all its beauty.

My partner Latanya and I formed a FaceBook group Lady Vets and Friends with the intent to bring awareness to all the beautiful hiking locations here in Georgia, as well as promote movement of all forms.

We set our intentions to hike as many of the state parks as we could this summer, and we were able to get to some of the most beautiful and breathtaking locations. So be sure to join our group to learn more about our next adventures, so that you can join us.

Check out our latest hike to the Little Grand Canyon in Providence Canyon State Park, Lumpkin, GA here .

Here's some fun facts about the LITTLE Grand Canyon.

Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon” is a testament to the power of man’s influence on the land. Home to some of the most beautiful photographs, the little grand canyon was formed from massive gullies caused by poor farming practices in the 1800s. One of the State's most beautiful parks located at the Providence State Park in Lumpkin, GA. A must see....

  1. Massive gullies as deep as 150 feet were caused simply by poor farming practices during the 1800s, yet today they make some of the prettiest photographs within the state.
  2. The rare Plumleaf Azalea grows only in this region and blooms during July and August when most azaleas have lost their color.
  3. The canyon soil’s pink, orange, red and purple hues make a beautiful natural painting at this quiet park.
  4. Water runs through the canyon floor, not to where you are not able to walk through but recommend hikers wear appropriate shoes, no flip flops or slippers.
  5. Rock formations are soft to the touch
  6. Backpackers can stay overnight along the backcountry trail which highlights portions of the canyon and winds through mixed forest.
  7. Buying an annual park pass in Georgia, gets you access to ALL Georgia state parks

If you live in Georgia and love to hike or are visiting and looking for a great place to hike.....The little grand canyon is absolutely gorgeous.
